Public hot spots and workspace etiquette

So would it be safe to say you can tell the age of the hotspot user by how loud the volume is on their computer or phone. Lets start by saying I cannot hear as well as I used to and I am at the car dealership so the TV is on at a high level (no problem white noise). However the lady next to me is on her phone phone playing some bubble bust game annoying me, plus her windows computer volume is cranked so we all know when she gets mail or any other type of pop. No its not Meg Ryan, but she does have mail!

Please show so etiquette in public places and come on mute your devices, I don’t care about your sounds! Seriously?! So did you guess her age yet? Lets just say she is younger than grandma, but she probably has grand kids! Now we know her name is Debbie because her loud ring and then her answering the phone in mobile phone voice gave it away. My guess is late 50’s to early 60’s, please folks I ask you to teach your mom that its not cool to announce every computer device she has in public.

Suicides, Shootings and Gun Violence

Comments Off
ShortLink:

Well I received notification today that there was an armed and suicidal person on the campus of OU.  It struck me that as I see the effect of gun violence, teen shootings and craziness that we have going on today I wanted to give me thoughts.  Well guess what that’s why I have a blog right!  No Facebook promotions, no need for anyone to read, just a place where I can come and me candid; if you want read; if you never find me don’t care either.

So back to topic, violence, suicide and gun violence.  In my experience which is not vast, but specific being the father of two teens and around their friends I see the effects of war.  Yep war, we here the stories of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), we see the effects that the ugliness of war and of killing has on soldiers.  They come back many times mentally as well as physically scared for a lifetime.  No one wants to go to war or at least no reasonable person.  A soldier elects to go to war, to fight for a right, a belief and to service others not just his or herself.  They don’t go because they want to kill for fun or they enjoy risking their life.  Listen to the interviews of the soldiers for the last 70 years since world war II, which was the beginning of the first modern war.  From then to Vietnam to the Gulf Wars no soldier really enjoys the war part and it has a profound effect on them.

Some people are not as effected by blood, guts, violence and war.  You can what a war movie or a suspense movie and then go right to sleep without bad dreams and mental anguish for a day or two.  That is not to say that they don’t upset you, but that you compartmentalize them and deal with them differently than most or a lot of people.  Now for the purpose of this blog post, stress and traumatic situations are what we want to avoid in life.  Every little boy generally like to play war, I did, however it is bang, bang you’re dead and strategy to win or shoot the other guy.  It is a game, you may play in the woods to pretend you are in jungle warfare, but it is your imagination and your creativity at work to rationalize and play the game to win the war.  A healthy outlet you might say for a young man.  However, when you play a war video game, it is intense, you are drawn in, the realism is crazy and you feel that you are in the moment in the war and you are fighting to survive! You have no stepped into a virtual reality or sorts!  Your mind has taken you there, simulated the war, the emotions the adrenaline.  You have been to war.

Now lets step out of the fake world and look at the young impressionable minds of pre-teens and teens that are immursing themselves in war games.  War has profound effect on mature minds and supposed rational thinkers.  Reference this quote:

War is Hell – General William Tecumseh Sherman

If grown men and women cannot deal with war very well how is it that we think that teens and younger with developing minds will deal with it correctly and act on it rationally.  So lets take war games, demented movies and TV that show and demonstrate sadistic and pathological behavior and allow our kids to watch that as entertainment and as a baby sitter for several years.  Where do we end up?  A crossroad where the seared mind of someone cannot rationalize that the game, fiction, virtual reality that they have immersed themselves in for several years or maybe even a short period of time has changed them scarred them, given them a form of PTSD that they are not equipped to deal with and frankly don’t even realize they have!?

You can’t drink till you are 21, legally.  You cannot buy cigarettes till you are 18 legally.  You have to get parental permission to have an abortion in 38 out of the 50 states, you cannot be drafted until you are 18 and graduated or no longer attending school, but you can go to war, immerse yourself in sadistic movies and TV shows at any age you can turn on the electronic viewing device (phone, TV, movie, computer, tablet, ipad or whatever).

Clearly there is a problem and the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of the greatest generation have failed to understand that somethings are better left to imagine unless and until you have to face them to save your life and freedoms or ones of the people you love.  I am ranted out for now…I’ll let you proof this to find my mistakes!

Window 8 Narrator is the devil

So I got a new tablet and I was playing with it; exploring if you will. so I tapped on ‘Narrator’ well there is apparently no easy way to turn it off with the easy with which you turned it on? With apple voiceover is a simple triple click away for off/on and can be very useful if you want your texts read while you are driving.

Conversely ‘narrator’ is the devil! Tap the app and the only way to turn off narrator if you accidentally turn it on is windows key + enter which was only possible with my Bluetooth keyboard! Apparently there are
other ways which appear to be in possible on the soft keyboard?

internal server error when visual editor is on in wordpress

By the way this is the way to fix it when you are getting an internal error for a couple of reasons.

  • Reason One: internal server error when visual editor is on in wordpress- the below solution works then you need to login to the blog admin after you have done the procedure below and turn off the check box update and then you can go turn back on all your plug-ins
    • btw – before you paste the following into the plugs field open notepad or something and copy and paste the plugins you have active then paste the code below that way once you have done the steps and turned off the visual editor the plug-ins will be like they were before!
    • now the real issue is fixing the visual editor bug which I think has to do with virus code injected into the blog in question!  Which fortunately is not this blog :)

this answer works for:

  • internal server error when visual editor is on in wordpress

  • internal server error from a plugin in wordpress

How to deactivate all plugins when not able to access the administrative menus?
Sometimes it may be necessary to deactivate all plugins, but you can’t access the administrative menus to do so. One of two methods are available to deactivate all plugins.

Use phpMyAdmin (use Navicat) to deactivate all plugins.

  1. In the table wp_options, under the option_name column (field) find the active_plugins row
  2. Change the option_value field to: a:0:{}

Or reset your plugins folder via FTP or the file manager provided in your host’s control panel.

  1. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
  2. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
  3. Login to your WordPress administration menus (/wp-admin)
  4. Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”

Government Shut Down & ObamaCare Solution

ShortLink:

As the debate or the news media rages on about the shutdown, the ‘non essential jobs’ and the facts of who isn’t working and that we cannot get the monthly jobs report this month yet because that part of the government is non-essential it cause me to think.  How about you, have you thought about it?  Non-essential now there’s a word yeah you think you know what it means well it doesn’t mean you are second class, unloved or that we don’t like you, in fact it is impersonal not based on the way, the skill or the efficiency with which a person or group of persons do their job(s)!  I mean this I have a masseuse I believe she helps with my wellness and well being, helps in keeping my back healthy as well as my overall health.  However, she is non-essential to my daily living!  My grandfather lived to 93, he worked long and hard on his farm for food for the family as well as at his day job running heavy equipment and he never had a massage a day in his life and he was as healthy until the month he died.

Dictionary.com

non·es·sen·tial [non-uh-sen-shuhl]

  • adjective: not essential; not necessary: Nonessential use of gasoline was forbidden during the war.
  • noun: a nonessential thing or person.
  • Synonyms: unnecessary, incidental, extrinsic.

So how does all of this relate to Government Shut Down and ObamaCare?  If a job is non-essential or a luxury if you will and you are in great debt, what do you do?  Well you stop it.  If you go into bankruptcy you can’t have credit or create new credit and debt so if you cut non-essential items then managing your budget or in this case debt and our tax dollars become a lot me logical.  So wouldn’t it be logical to propose that we cut spending, not all non-essential people need to be out of work, because frankly some of those jobs are essential to our society and they way we want our country run, but we need great leaders to make tough decisions and run our country!

If a CEO is doing well he is well paid and gets bonuses and incentives, if he is not he is removed!  If you pay someone a flat pay and they have no hope or incentive to do better, how good of a job do they do?  In most cases they get some work done, but take no ownership and work only what is expected.

Would it be fair to say that we should only elect people to office in the government to make decisions with our tax dollars, health care (apparently) and national budget that have run a business for at least some period of time?  Do they have to be a millionaire or rich, NO; do they have to have been successful with all their businesses, NO; but they should be able to understand why they were successful or why they failed and therefore realize how something (a country in this case) should be run.  I mean did they learn from their mistakes, can they explain why their business failed?  Under funding, mismanagement, poor staff, sub standard product or just they were overwhelmed and could handle the pressure.  OR They were a rousing success because…

Because you inherited a lot of money doesn’t mean you know how to manage money or make money it just means someone in your family before you did.  So who do you think is best qualified to make money, run a company or a country and make good business decisions?  A lawyer (even one who is rich from large lawsuit settlements), a trust fund kid, a life long student/intern?  Is it any of these or aren’t there some better choices to get things going in the right direction.

Essential truths learned from success and failures not non-essential problems created by mismanagement!

Well I got this out through several ADD disruptions and without a proofread before posting we’ll check it later to see if it makes a bit of sense!

Speaker Wire

Comments Off
ShortLink:

Go cheap I always say…(tongue in cheek) that is to say save money on the things that you can, but buy things that will last!  I could start a whole rant here on why Heinz is better than Hunts and why you buy name brand cereal, but when it comes to wire HDMI (and this HDMI review) or other…go cheap!  I have that wire from 1974 that I have always had in a box, been waiting to use it.  I have the latest 5.1 digital sound time for my 1974 wire! Right?

So I have the above mentioned problem/luxury of putting in new surround sound speakers, so i write this post just so I can remember, because I am doing this in a rental house and then will get to redo it when we move to our permanent house.  So I googled it, which is how every question and problem is solved in 2013 right whether it’s speaker cable or medical issues we are all suddenly experts!  Here is what I found.

An Excerpt from Crown International Site their site:

The longer the run, the heavier gauge you will need to minimize power and damping factor loss. You will also want to consider the size of power amplifier you are using. The larger the amplifier, the heavier gauge you will want to use. Generally speaking, runs of 25 Ft or less work well with 14 gauge. Over 25 one should use 12 gauge if possible. Read Crown Article

On the other hand we have crutchfield who has been selling and installing electronics since 1974 and they recommend 14-16 Gauge wire or AWG (American Wire Gauge) which is stouter all the way around.

You can use the following chart as a guideline:

Length of wire needed Gauge
Less than 50 feet 16
50 feet or longer 14

You may want to consider thicker speaker cable if:

  • You’re connecting an audiophile-quality music system or a surround sound home theater setup. Thicker wire can help your system deliver fine musical detail or the explosive effects of 5.1-channel surround sound.
  • You can’t avoid long wire runs to your speakers; for example, in the case of a wired multi-room system, where you’ll likely use in-wall speaker wire from room to room. Thicker wire reduces the overall resistance, lightening the load on your receiver or amp. This can mean not only a difference in sound quality, but also in the long-term dependability of your system.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

  • Live each day in the hope and understanding that God has a specific plan for you and that it is for you to follow what he says and that although it may not seem so or it may seem that you can do things on your own, his plan is perfect, his plan is better.  Why would I want to do something that is imitation perfect when I could have something that is perfectly planned?!

So I was reflecting and had no one to talk to so, guess that’s why there are blogs? You can say what you mean to who you mean or anyone and not only get it off your chest, but leave a record of it. Sometimes that’s good other times its bad. In this case wanted to talk to my wife she doesn’t feel good and is busy. In any case I just wanted to say this so who I say it too doesn’t really matter I just got to say it!

So unfortunate news this week of Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren’s son committing suicide at age 27. Apparently he had tried it when he was 17 and now he successfully closed the deal. An interesting point is that Pastor Rick and apparently his wife struggle with deep depression much like there son did. They have fought it and deal with it and unfortunately the son was not able to.

My observation was that satan knows your weak area and likes to drill it even worse: Something that one of the most influential pastors in the word (Rick Warren) struggles with – depression and now one of the most depressing things that could ever happen for a parent has happened; the loss of their child!

A fallen world, a fallen problem, something that is hard to explain the existence of for a child who professed to know Christ, has the claim of defeat on satan. To be finished…interrupted
